The point of the bolt buffer is, what?

Post by mecompco »

Upon examination of an installed buffer, I don't see where the end of the bolt, with or without bolt weight installed, or the end of the recoil spring guide could ever impact the buffer. Is something off or is this the way it's meant to function?

Maybe I don't understand what your question, but on my bolt the end of the recoil spring guide can contact the buffer. With the bolt weight installed the back of the weight comes into contact with the buffer as well. It seems like it's doing the job it was designed for.

Here's a picture of the contact I'm seeing with the bolt buffer: Image

This is just a guess, but I'm thinking the buffer back there is to help minimize the metal to metal contact when the bolt travels back. A potential issue with the conversion kits is that weld on that back plate being weak.
