I have more than a few center-fire ARs, although I only have one that wears a 16" barrel, and it is a 9mm.

It's amusing to me how owning a few silencers has influenced my AR accumulation.

Along with three 9mms, I have a (gas operated) 10mm, and a .45 ACP

I also have one each in 5.56, 6.5 Grendel, .300 AAC, and 7.62x39

Just like 10/22s, they can be habit-forming

I've never had the first "hit" of the 10/22 drug, but if it's like ARs, I probably should steer clear for the sake of my wallet.

In addition to my 3-gun rifles I have a suppressed and SBR AR in 223, a 5.5" SBR 9mm PCC, a 5" 22lr pistol, Obsidian 9 and AAC Element II. I also have a 10/22 with Kidd FCG and barrel. Being a 3-gun shooter for 12 years, I'm quite comfortable with the feel of an AR but I really do like my 10/22 with the Magpul stock. They are all nice in their own way.

It's not near as addictive as AR's for me. I can recommend putting together one 10/22 or just keep it stock. You can certainly dump some money into one. I took a $200 10/22 and spent that same amount on the barrel alone, LOL. Kidd Ultra lite is amazing, as is their trigger groups.

The 10/22 vice is like the AR15 vice in that there is an aftermarket that will help you empty your wallet.

For most of us there are some limits to the 10/22 design. It is designed with an eye toward economical manufacture and durability. That pays some dividends to a tinkerer; you won't need a vise block or specialty wrench to build one. To get excellent accuracy, people change the design in some important ways, including threaded receivers and barrels and additional action screws. I don't even think that "I bent the feed lips" on a 10/22 magazine is something anyone has ever said.

I've renounced my 10/22 hobby, retaining only one example with which I could not part. I haven't shot it in years, but it's so good that I can't let it go.

Here's a less expensive, albeit somewhat less effective, option for changing sound perception with that 16" 9mm. Witt Machine SME sound mitigation device. Works very good at mitigating perceived sound for the user with many calibers however with a 16" 9mm barrel and heavier (145grn and up) 9mm ammo it's better than very good.....for less than $200. Build and material quality of these are excellent.
